Whitney Houston Celebrates Gospel

Whitney Houston made a remarkable comeback in singing at BET’s Yearly Celebration of Gospel event. Audience were in awe as she stepped into the stage and sang the R. Kelly written and produced anthem “I Look to You” with the phenomenal Kim Burrel.

It was a miracle and a touching moment as the music diva is showing signs that she is firmly fighting her drug addiction problem.

Her powerful voice made her the most awarded female artist of all time with 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards, and listed as one of The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by the Rolling Stone magazine. Nobody can’t forget her song “I will always Love you” that made her the best-selling single artist in music history and made her an icon in all generation.

Houston began her singing career at being a junior gospel choir member at her New Jersey church. She had a quite impressive training ground and an excellent mentors like her mother Cissy Houston and a family friend Aretha Franklin.

This African-American woman is not just an R&B, Pop and gospel singer but a renowned actress and a stunning fashion model as well. “The Bodyguard” movie is her first starring role that had been a box-office movie and garnered awards and commendations from different award-giving bodies.

As a fashion model, Whitney only gained a few pounds after her announced drug addiction but still in shape whenever she was dressed in church suits or an evening dress to attend an event. It was amazing to know that though her family and relatives are really ballooning in figure whenever they reach their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s ages, maybe she won’t be wearing plus size dresses even if she reached that age.

You can see her blooming look and startling performance during the Celebration Of Gospel which will be aired on BET on Sunday, January 30 at 8 p.m.

Oprah is 2010 Kennedy Center Honors Honoree

It wasn’t a surprise that Oprah was one among the five recipients of Kennedy Center Honors for 2010. For more than 25 years in the industry as a doyenne of daytime television, has established one of the most innovative careers in the entertainment world, and have created appositive impact on the American Culture. With this, she deserved or rather surpassed the qualifications for the Kennedy Center Honors.

Being a Kennedy Center Honors awardee, this honor will be added into her numerous recognition for years as an actress, producer, philanthropist, and the richest African American of the 20th century, and was the world’s only black billionaire.

But being the most influential woman in the world, during the event the media mogul was dressed in a plus size dress with plunging black top and A-line skirt only. Her attire had been the talk of the blogosphere, because the event calls for a black and tie dress code, and everybody was expecting that Oprah will be dressed in a designer plus size suit.
Although, Oprah’s style is still there, (the plunging neckline) spectators find that dress inappropriate for that significant event.

Well, that was indeed pretty simple compared to her appearances for the different awards and events that happened this season. See below:

Either of these Oprah look is ideal for the Kennedy Center Honors. She looked amazingly gorgeous either in dark or bright color dresses. Although she missed donning a floor sweeping gown to get her Kennedy Center Honors award, she proved that plunging neckline is really is her style.

Michelle Obama is in hot seat for a handshake!

All eyes are on First Lady Michelle Obama for the handshake controversy on Indonesia religious information minister Tifatul Sembiring.

The said forced contact handshake was caught on video and had been a big issue on Indonesia being regarded as a conservative Muslim country. In the video, Sembiring handshakes Michelle Obama with his two hands that contradicts his statement which said that he tried to prevent being touched by Obama’s hands but Michelle held her hands too far toward his that is why they have touched.

Michelle Obama’s camp is still quiet about this issue.

At the arrival area Michelle Obama casual dress made her look elegant and stunning. She talks and moves with grace during the night party. The Michelle Obama cocktail dress was long-sleeve spotted red and black dress. I would like to applause Michelle Obama designer for creating dresses that complements her beauty and status in the society.

Whatever issues, rumors and gossips linked to Michelle Obama, what is more admirable to her is that she remains quiet and poised at all times.

Church Dresses is Always an in thing in the Fashion Trend

Post modernism skid the way in a fast phase: technology per se, philosophy, society; all trends involving the walks of life. And thus, fashion was a more manifestation of such reality. For that reason, even the types of dresses that people wore has a great impact on the time scheme. Time changes as dresses had worn out the days; so as with the people wearing them. Hence, church suits were seemingly taken by the antiquity of the past. Therefore, it is so classical thus, out of tune to wear such church dresses on Sundays or on days of worship. However, a Church, as place of the Divine, needs to be rendered with reverence. If so, worshippers must be in a respectable suit as well.

So, we take the pride to extirpate the above notion and give applause to great designers whom we owe the fashionable (still) church suits that was never taken by time. Herewith, one of which is Dorinda Clark. Below are some of the ideal church suits (others are from Dorinda Clark’s collections) that women may wear with regality, reverence and fashion (style).

These dresses were shown with simplicity yet with style. The hats were always fashionable match for the dresses, perfect for church-dress-going.

Church suits from Dorinda Clark’s collection depict formality -- rightly for worshiping rather than for business suits. More below:

Church suit dresses must not always be similar to business dresses. Here are some exciting styles:

Dorinda Clark – an epitome of grace and elegance

Like the old cliché says, beauty is not skin deep, but, it is shown on how a woman dresses.

Elaborating further, this cliché can be demonstrated through the way Dorinda Clark-Cole, an American evangelist as well as gospel singer who won three Grammy awards, show offs her inner beauty by wearing her formal dresses and evening dresses.

Being the “Rose of Gospel” and growing from the guidance of Mattie Moss Clark, her father and a choral director, Dorinda must show to the whole world how to dress properly as she goes over her engagements with the press and sound recordings for her albums.

Her hectic schedules include various musical conferences, showcase events and pastor sessions where she meets different people. With this, her wardrobe includes exquisite suits which are part of the DCC Rose Collection for Terramina.

The DCC Rose Collection for Terramina Collection of the gospel girl includes elegant formal dresses and evening dresses with matching hats in various colors and designs. Colors range from white to black and red to blue as well as green and gray. The incorporation of the colors and designs of these dresses makes women feel that they are special, as said by Dorinda herself.

Dorinda, who is a prominent figure in the Church of God in Christ, has a love for fashion and style which is reflected through the sophisticated, very womanly and church-lady designs of the DCC Rose Collection for Terramina. This love for fashion and style truly reveals her innermost love for God.

Serving God through Music: Does gospel singers have dress code?

Do you have big, powerful yet heavenly voice like Mahalia Jackson, Albertina Walker (hailed as the Queen of Gospel or Shirley Ceasar (the first lady of Gospel)? If you do, that is a talent that God gave you, and be used in praising Him.

You would be called as a gospel singer if the song you sing are all praise songs for the Almighty. The voice is there, but concerns me the most is how would you dress up when you sing gospel songs? Does church suits enough? Or dress like the way artists dressed while on the concert stage? Or you can wear in whatever style you want?

Essentially, a gospel singer performs at the church platform not on a concert stage, unless of course you already gained popularity and have invited to have some gospel concert. So, the appropriate dress will be church suits right? Formal wear is ideal, especially when you are a solo performer. For women, long gown with sleeves or a modest casual wear that falls below the knee is the best pick. Never wear a dress that is two or three inch above the knee or any revealing and tight dress so as not to distract the solemnity in the church and the audience will be concerned only on the gospel message of music.

For men gospel singers, they are expected to dress like professional salespeople of any other business, namely, suits and ties. Tuxedos display an elegant and masculine look and definitely add confidence especially when men perform as a group like the Male Quartet group.

Wearing the appropriate attire as a gospel singer develops a sense of integrity that people will look upon you and Someone up there will surely appreciate if you do.

Accessorize to conceal not to reveal

If you are a full figured woman who loves to dress up and needs the right Sunday dress, plus sized church suits come in a variety of styles and colors perfect for the curvy woman like you. You got the plus size church suits that complement your taste and style, but that bumpy tummy and large shoulders might still show off.

Don’t worry. Every sigh has an answer. Accessories will save your day. Even if you choose designer plus size suits, they won’t magically turn you into a hot sexy woman like Megan Fox. Even cheap plus size church wear suits can look elegant and dazzling on you depending on how you carry it and of course on what accessories you used.

Pearls are classic but typical and won’t look good on you if you have broad jaw line. Wear a dangling pair of chandelier earrings to draw attention to your face. However, keep in mind the details on your suit; if your clothing contains a lot of embellishments, keep the jewelry more subdued. For simpler suits, you can wear bigger, bolder pieces of jewelry. You don't want the suit and jewelry to clash, but instead to complement each other. Likewise, pull out a pair of sassy high heels. You're dressing from head-to-toe, so everything in your outfit should reflect the same degree of sophistication.

Remember you're in a church to please God and not the people around you but don't shrink into the background, but still exude elegance with your suit. Have confidence in the way you look and dress. Chances are they will admire you on being fashionably and appropriately dressed.

Off to the church? Look best and be blessed

Let me refresh you on some Church rules that sometimes are neglected by many especially the men. Men should dress modestly. “Sunday best” is still the policy. But wearing what you think is best for you is not fit to say for some because they wear casual not the formal wear intended for attending church service. If we would take a look on the past centuries, you would see men attending church dressed in suit with coat and tie. Slacks are properly pressed, matched with shinny black shoes.

We can bring that back still now. Take note men, especially the ones who aren’t comfortable wearing formal church suits, you look gorgeous and masculine when you are wearing a formal wear. Black church suits for men are widely available in style and cut you want. The undying black color gives a more refined and presentable look.

Church suits for men are also popular as black formal wear for men by some online shops and boutiques. Your church suits can also be worn as a formal wear. Black formal wear for men are tagged as attire for special occasions such as wedding, anniversary, and banquet to name a few.

In buying for some church suits, you need to know some tips to get an instant classic look which projects a sense of style. The two important considerations in buying a church suit are the style and fabric.

Know your style. Black suits can make you look powerful, mature, conservative, or sexy. Remember, most women love men in black suits! You can't go wrong with a single-breasted, solid color suit in black, grey or navy blue and always remember a single-breasted suit will make you look slimmer and sleeker in appearance.

Wear a suit that will give you a comfy feeling. Choose a wool fabric. Wool is always a safe option when buying a suit. It looks good and makes you feel good also.

Remember to use your best judgment and good taste when dressing for church. After all, you don't go to be seen by everyone else - you go to meet and worship God.

Have a blessed day!

Elegant cocktail dresses in shape for Huggable Women

plus size clothing
Been invited in a glittering cocktail party but shy to go because you’re one among the league of full-figured, curve hugging shape women? Well, what do you think of Hollywood celebrities like Nikki Blonsky, Lisa Synder, Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah have in common? They are “big-boned” or “fat and curvy” as described in a magazine, but they look hot and sexy when they strut in the red carpet.

What I am saying is, choosing the right dress is the key for a curvy woman like you to look sexy yet elegant. Plenty of plus size dresses are widely available online for you to choose from, so there are no reasons for you not to attend that special cocktail party that you’re dying to come.

An A-line style cocktail dress is the best choice for a plus size woman. This style creates a slimming look in a dress particularly on black color.

You may consider also wearing a wrap or shrug or shawl if you would like to conceal that bumpy upper arms of yours. This piece of cloth adds a royal touch if you are a wearing a long gown and will keep your shoulders warm on a chilly evening. Quick tip: Cocktail dresses that have ruffles around the hips and chest are not advisable for larger people unless of course you want to look as large as possible.

Accessories add beauty and elegance. But choose accessories that harmonize your look. Consider carefully the kind of handbag, jewelry and shoes you will wear. Make sure that it is balance. Remember that your cocktail dress is the star; so don’t wear plenty of jewelry that would exaggerate your look. Don’t wear shoes that don’t blend in.

Last but definitely not the least to consider is your hairstyle. Make sure that hair is done in a style that complements the look you want to express. If you’re wearing a long plus size gown for a formal affair, wearing your hair up can bring a fantastic and clean look. But for a cocktail party, ponytail or a little curly on the bottom is simple yet look stunning.

Now, you are good to go! Show them that huggable women have also a side of sexiness! Don’t forget to wear that cute smile! Smile adds confidence.

Fit and Fab cocktail dresses for any season

cocktail dressWhen Christian Dior first used the word cocktail dress in the late 1940’s to refer to clothes that would be worn as early evening wear, little did he or the world know, that he would be an icon and a great contributor in the fashion world today.

Cocktail dresses have been extremely popular amongst most women of all shapes and have created a sense of signature in all gatherings and occasions. They come in a wide array of styles, designs, shapes and lengths. Not to mention the “black dress” that becomes a trademark for cocktail parties and other socializing events.

Is this your first time to get an invitation on cocktail parties? If so, you need to at least know the basic dos and don’ts when wearing a cocktail dress. When it is a cocktail party, you should avoid wearing a sequined gown with some Elizabethan embroidery, as they are too formal for such an occasion.

Sequenced gowns with laces and long gowns with some diamonds in it are classified elegant social dresses fit for formal gatherings such as weddings, anniversaries, and engagements, not for cocktail parties. The ideal would be cocktail dresses that stop above the knee. Choose a material that would make you feel comfortable like satin and silk.

If the event falls on summer days, wear a cocktail dress that are pastel in color like light pink, sky blue, yellow or pale green. These colors give a sense of comfy feeling and are fresh to look at during this hot season. Floral prints on your cocktail dress plus some simple accessories are also popular during this season.

On the other hand, if you have been invited on a winter season, cottony fabric is the best choice. Dark colors like black (the all time favorite), charcoal gray, dull purple or maroon are the best picks for this season. These colors provide a warm feeling when the weather is cold and are not to bright to look at.

Make-up is not a tough issue on events like this, because women are good at it. You know exactly the colors of make-up that look great on you. Just add a little twist or something classy colors fit for the event.

Fabulous Cocktail Dresses to Fit Any Season

cocktail dress
It was during the late 1940s, when the fashion term “cocktail dress” was coined. This was referred to clothing worn on parties, where people socialize with each other. Christian Dior, one of today’s prominent fashion designers, was the first to use the term to classify evening dresses that women can wear on semi-formal occasions and cocktail parties.

If so, you need to at least know the basic "dos" and "dont's" when wearing a cocktail dress. What to wear when going to church?

hat and church suitsDuring the day of our Lord I always wonder what to wear when going to church, until I found an interesting forum discussing about it...you can read it here:
http://forums.thefashionspot.com/f58/what-not-wear-church-4299.html

An author says:
Once again this easter I spotted someone at church in the most inappropriate outfit. I don't know how the parents of this 15 year old let her go to church Saturday night looking like she was going to the mall with friends to meet a boy.

But then again does it really matter what you wear at church as long as you have faith?

Then many things had came to my mind...especially this question: What do I really need to wear? Until I found a website that offers discounted church suits. It's really nice and offers good deals for church fashion among others.

Dorinda Clark's Gospel Bio

One could almost say Dorinda Clark-Cole was famous from the day she was born. As one of four daughters of the internationally renowned Gospel choir director and composer, Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark, she has been singing for a congregation or audience since she was five, and recording with her sisters—widely known to Gospel fans for years as the Clark Sisters—since the mid-‘80s.She loves wearing quality church suits which you can avail at cheaper price at Ultimatesuits.com.

With the release of her second solo album, Live From Houston… The Rose of Gospel, she continues to not only build her famous family legacy, but even more to develop and refine her own distinct—and often devastating—individual artistic signature. Dorinda’s unparalleled improvisational skills earned her the reputation as “the jazzy one” of the sisters. There’s certainly no argument with that. Over the years, her dazzling scats, riffs, and runs have become almost legendary. But that’s just one edge of a pallet that is filled with a seemingly endless array of colors, hues and shadings. And Dorinda paints freely from it all.

On Live From Houston… The Rose of Gospel she applies those prodigious gifts to a project that, in her words, “is meant to reach everybody—from the youngest to the oldest.” And she succeeds stunningly at every turn.
